SPEATBC Presidents Interview questionnaire

Dear SPEATBC Presidents,

As the Society of Punjabi Engineers and Technologists of British Columbia, SPEATBC - a non-profit organization celebrates its silver jubilee on 16th May, 2020; our plan is to interview the past presidents of SPEATBC to learn about their professional journey and share their wisdom. 

A SPEATBC President has a one year term to carry the society’s vision forward, working alongside his/her elected members of the Executive team. 

The material collected will be compiled into a SPEATBC magazine to commemorate the twenty five presidents that have been appointed over the years. 

For the Interview part, please select your top five to seven questions from below and elaborate on your responses.

1.     Tell me about your move to Canada - when was it and what was happening in your life at the time?

2.     In your early student life at school, what inspired you to choose the engineering/technical field?

3.     When did you join SPEATBC? Which was your first SPEATBC event that you attended? What are the various roles that you have volunteered for within the Executive team?

4.     What was your first job in Canada like? If not in your relevant field, how did you work towards finding the right fit?

5.     Do you recommend this career to others, and if so, why? What advice can you provide to students considering this path?

6.     In your experience, what are the must have soft skills needed for new immigrants to succeed in the workplace?

7.     What are some of the challenges that you faced being a new immigrant and how did you overcome them?

8.     During your SPEATBC presidential term (or as a member over the years), what are you most proud of implementing (or being a part of) that has made an impact to the broader community? 

9.     What does SPEATBC mean to you? Describe one of your favourite SPEATBC moments.

10.  In your experience, what is an investment you made (money, time or energy) that really paid off for you professionally?

11.  If there was one message or quote that you would like to share with the SPEATBC community, what would that be?
